Newborns spend about 14 hours a day sleeping, so choosing the right mattress is vital. Here’s what to look for:

Ensure the mattress fits snugly in the crib to avoid any gaps where your baby's fingers or limbs could get trapped. The space between the top of the mattress and the cot should be small enough to prevent your baby from attempting to climb out.

The mattress should be firm, flat, and in good condition, with no rips, tears, or sagging. Good breathability is essential to help regulate your baby's temperature. While a firm mattress may feel stiff to you, it provides the best support for your baby.
